A Scribd subscription now buys documents and Slideshare presentations only. Ebooks and audiobooks went to Everand, a separate subscription. Scribd prices by country, and the page it served us was the German one: EUR 10.99 a month after a 30-day trial (scribd.com, checked October 2026). For rupees, the India App Store lists in-app purchases named "Scribd Membership" between ₹299 and ₹999 (checked October 2026), without saying which term each one is. Your real figure is the total on Scribd's checkout when you sign in from India. We also sell shared access: Scribd and Everand both sit in our Ultimate plan at ₹2,499/month for 91 tools. We are one of the routes on this page, so check our numbers against Scribd's own.
Most people in India who search for a Scribd price have hit the same wall: a research paper, a solved question bank or an old manual sits on scribd.com with the download button greyed out. Some of them also remember Scribd as the app with audiobooks and want to know if that still comes in the same plan. Below is what Scribd's own pages said on 14 October 2026, where our reading of them falls short, and what paying from an Indian card or a student budget looks like.
Scribd, Inc. now runs three products. Scribd is the document library: papers, theses, reports, notes and manuals uploaded by users. Slideshare is the presentation library the company also owns. Everand is the ebook and audiobook service, with podcasts and its own originals. A Scribd subscription, which the terms call Scribd Premium, covers the first two.
The Scribd Premium terms of sale on support.scribd.com, checked October 2026, describe it as web and app access to Scribd and Slideshare and say it does not include access to any other Scribd, Inc. product. Everand's plan article (checked October 2026) says the same from the other side: an Everand subscription is separate and does not include Scribd or Slideshare. Scribd's help centre also notes that a subscription cannot be moved between the two. If you sign up for the wrong one, you cancel it and start again on the other site.
That matters because a lot of what you will read elsewhere is out of date. The App Store description of the Scribd app, as served to the India storefront in October 2026, still says a monthly subscription includes Everand and Slideshare at no extra cost. The newer help centre articles and terms contradict it. We go with the terms, because those are what a charge is made under. So first decide which you need: documents (Scribd) or books you read and listen to (Everand). Some students need both, and that means two bills.
Scribd decides the price from where you are. Its homepage carries the subscription offer, and our fetch was answered with a country code of DE, so what follows is the German offer. It shows how the plan is built; an Indian visitor will see a different price.
| Tier | Price shown | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic (no subscription) | No charge | Ad-supported reading and search across 300M+ documents, personalised recommendations, the app |
| Free trial | 30 days at no charge | Ad-free browsing, 2 document downloads, AI-powered insights, Slideshare |
| Paid subscription | EUR 10.99 a month | Ad-free reading, document downloads for offline use, Slideshare access |
The trial is capped at 2 downloads (scribd.com, checked October 2026), so a trial will not get you through a reading list of thirty papers. And downloads depend on the uploader too: Scribd's help article on downloading documents, checked October 2026, says the contributor decides whether a document can be saved, and when they turn that off you can read it on the site but cannot download or print it, paid plan or not.
Because our fetch was located in Germany, we looked for a source that is fixed to India. Apple's India App Store is one: it lists each app's in-app purchases in rupees. For the Scribd app, the list we read on apps.apple.com/in in October 2026 showed ten items, all named "Scribd Membership", priced from ₹299 to ₹999. The Everand app's India listing, checked the same day, showed its own items between ₹419 and ₹689.
Apple shows the item name and the price and nothing else, so we cannot tell you which figure is a month, which is a year and which is an introductory offer. Prices bought through the App Store also go through Apple's billing, which can differ from what scribd.com charges in a browser. Scribd's own terms of sale (checked October 2026) add one more variable: prices are shown in USD or, where possible, local currency, and the currency depends on the billing country of your payment method.
The practical way to get your price is to make an account on scribd.com from India, open the subscribe page, and read the amount before you enter card details. Do the same on the Scribd app if you prefer paying through Apple or Google, and compare the two. Scribd can change the figure whenever it likes, so a screenshot from last term proves little.
Everand works on unlocks. Scribd's help article on Everand plans, checked October 2026, gives the US prices and the unlock count for each plan, and says pricing outside the US may vary by country.
| Everand plan | US price per month | Unlocks per month |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $11.99 | 1 |
| Plus | $16.99 | 3 |
| Deluxe | $28.99 | 5 |
An unlock opens one ebook or audiobook for as long as you stay subscribed, and unused unlocks last six months, per the same article. Every plan also gets a smaller set of titles marked "unlimited" that need no unlock, along with podcasts and Everand Originals. For a reader who gets through one book a month, Standard is the plan. For a student who wants ten textbooks this semester, no Everand plan fits well, and the library at your college will do better.
Everand's trial article, checked October 2026, gives 30 days when you sign up on the website and 7 days through the App Store or Google Play, with a single unlock during the trial whatever plan you picked. Cancelling a trial ends access straight away, so do not cancel on day two expecting to keep reading until day thirty.
You do not need to pay to read most of Scribd. Its FAQ on scribd.com, checked October 2026, says no subscription is required to read and upload, and that paying adds downloads and an ad-free experience. When you pause or cancel, Scribd's pause article says you drop to Basic, the free plan, where search across 300M+ documents stays open while AI summaries, text copying, ad-free reading and offline access go away (support.scribd.com, checked October 2026).
If you only need to read a few documents on screen, Basic covers it. Pay when you need files on your laptop for offline study, want to copy text for notes, or cannot stand the ads. If you start the trial, start it the week you actually have the reading to do, since the 30-day clock keeps running even on days you never open Scribd.
Scribd will hold a small temporary amount on your card when you start a trial, according to its help article on pending transactions (checked October 2026). It shows as a pending charge named something like "TEMPORARY AUTH SCRIBD" and clears within three to five business days. The same article says no money leaves your account for it, even if your bank sends an alert.
Scribd's help centre lists the payment methods it accepts, checked October 2026: Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express cards, PayPal in most countries, Apple Pay on Safari, Google Pay on Chrome, and billing through the App Store or Google Play. It does not accept prepaid cards. UPI is not on the list. Every charge appears as "Scribd, Inc." on your statement, including Everand.
The bigger issue for Indian buyers is the renewal. Scribd keeps a help article titled "Payment issues impacting customers in India", still live in October 2026, which explains that since the RBI's recurring-payment rules took effect in October 2021 many Indian card issuers do not process some recurring foreign charges. Its advice is to use a card issued outside India if you have one, or try Apple Pay or Google Pay, which it says have worked best, without a guarantee. So the first payment may go through and the second month's renewal may fail.
Subscribing inside the Scribd app moves the billing to Apple or Google, which is another way to pay. Cancellations and refunds then go through Apple or Google too: Scribd's refund article, checked October 2026, sends App Store and Google Play buyers to those companies' own support.
There is no Indian student price. Scribd's article on Student and Educator Plans, checked October 2026, says they are only for US-based students and educators with a valid school email address. An Indian university email does not qualify.
What does help students is the pause. Scribd's help article on pausing, checked October 2026, lets you stop billing for 4 or 12 weeks, up to three times in a three-month period, and your saved documents stay where they were. Pay during the weeks you are writing a project or preparing for exams, then pause through the break. A pause is not available during a trial, and it is not offered for App Store subscriptions.
Before paying at all, check whether what you need is somewhere free. Indian theses are often on Shodhganga, the INFLIBNET repository, and many journal papers have a free preprint on the author's page or on arXiv. The National Digital Library of India indexes a large amount of study material for students. Your college library may also subscribe to databases that cover the same papers someone has uploaded to Scribd. Scribd is best for the odd things those sources lack: a scanned manual, an old question paper set, a company report someone saved.
Refunds are narrow. Scribd's refund article, checked October 2026, refunds a charge from the last 30 days only if the account had no activity in that billing period, plus cases of fraud, billing errors or technical failure on Scribd's side. Download one file in the month and that month is not refundable.
We sell shared access to Scribd and to Everand. Neither has a rupee price on its own in our catalogue. In rupees, both come inside the Ultimate plan at ₹2,499/month, which carries all 91 tools we sell, from SEO suites to writing and design tools. On their own, Scribd is listed at $5/month and Everand at $5/month, charged in dollars. India checkout takes UPI and Indian cards for the plan. (Reading from Pakistan or Bangladesh? Prices follow the market switch:
| Route | What you get | Price | Your own account? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scribd Basic | Read and search documents, with ads | No charge | Yes |
| Scribd subscription, retail | Downloads, ad-free, Slideshare | Set by country at checkout; ₹299 to ₹999 on the India App Store (checked October 2026) | Yes |
| Everand, retail | Ebooks and audiobooks by unlock | From $11.99 a month in the US (support.scribd.com, checked October 2026) | Yes |
| Scribd from us, standalone | Shared Scribd access | $5/month, in USD | No |
| Our Ultimate plan | Scribd, Everand and 89 other tools | ₹2,499/month | No |
The Ultimate row makes sense for someone who already uses several paid tools, such as a freelancer who writes, designs and does SEO work and wants Scribd for research on top. A student who only needs documents for one term will usually pay less on Scribd's own plan, or nothing on Basic. If Ultimate fits, the Ultimate checkout is here, billed month to month.
Shared access costs less because you are not the account holder. Know what that means before you pay us or any other seller.
| You are | Sensible choice |
|---|---|
| Student who reads a few documents a month | Scribd Basic, plus Shodhganga and your college library |
| Student with a project or exam season ahead | Scribd's own plan for those weeks, then pause it |
| Reader who wants audiobooks on the commute | Everand Standard, priced locally at signup |
| Researcher who needs files offline every month | Your own Scribd subscription, billed through an app store if renewals keep failing |
| Freelancer already paying for several tools | Our Ultimate plan at ₹2,499/month, with Scribd and Everand included |
The same split holds in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Scribd's country pricing and card rules apply there too, and the Ultimate plan follows the market switch above. Pakistani card payments abroad can also carry advance tax, which our Coursera Plus price guide for Pakistan explains. Before paying any group-buy seller, read our safety checklist.

Scribd sets prices by country and did not show us an Indian price, because our fetch came from Germany: scribd.com answered with EUR 10.99 a month after a 30-day trial, checked October 2026. The closest rupee figures we found are on the India App Store, where the Scribd app lists in-app purchases called "Scribd Membership" from ₹299 to ₹999 (checked October 2026), without naming the term each one covers. Sign in from India and read the checkout total before paying.
Not any more. Scribd Premium covers Scribd documents and Slideshare presentations, and its terms of sale (checked October 2026) say it does not include other Scribd, Inc. products. Ebooks and audiobooks moved to Everand, which is a separate subscription with its own plans. Older articles, and even the App Store description of the Scribd app, still describe the bundle the way it used to be.
The page we were served showed one, checked October 2026: 30 days at no charge, with 2 document downloads during the trial, then the monthly price. Scribd asks for a card or wallet up front and renews automatically, so set a reminder. The trial length and offer can differ by country, and Scribd's terms say eligibility limits may apply, such as one trial per account or household.
UPI is not on the payment methods list in Scribd's help centre, checked October 2026: it names Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express cards, PayPal in most countries, Apple Pay, Google Pay and app-store billing, and it refuses prepaid cards. Scribd also keeps a help article on failed renewals for Indian cards under the RBI recurring-payment rules.
No. Scribd's Student and Educator Plans are for US-based users with a valid school email address, according to its help centre checked October 2026, and the article says they are not available outside the United States. Indian students pay the standard price, or use the pause feature between terms.
Only as part of the Ultimate plan, ₹2,499/month for 91 tools, which carries both Scribd and Everand. On its own, Scribd is listed at $5/month, charged in dollars. Either way it is shared access on an account that is not yours, so your saved lists and uploads are not private.
